Skin Food - what a way to start my day

I’ve had a nutribullet for about a year and I love it, i try to have a green smoothie most days but I find them a bit much first thing in the morning, too heavy, too much.

Whilst the nutribullet (in my opinion) is better than a juice because you aren’t losing the fibre, it can make for a heavy, thick drink. I didn’t want a juicer and a nutribullet taking up valuable kitchen space but wanted something lighter in the morning. Then I read a genius mindbodygreen article about celery juice and an idea hatched....

Strained celery water starts my day really well, it’s light, refreshing, hydrating and tastes quite savoury. It’s true you don’t get the fibre goodness of a whole veg smoothie but for one drink a day i don’t think it matters so much. It’s quick and easy and I have made it and cleaned up in under three minutes - perfect for my morning rush.

What you need

three large sticks of celery, roughly broken so they fit in the nutribullet

Water

Juice of half a lemon

Method:

Whizz it all together in the nutribullet and strain through a muslin (here) - (I buy ten of these and just stick them in the washing machine, they’ve lasted for over 3 months)

A friend staying with me also added a pinch of himalayan salt to hers as i had some knocking around - she swears by the stuff. If i have lemons in the fruit bowl i’ll squeeze in the juice of half.

Why i love celery water in the morning:

  • It wakes me up - a pint of savoury tasting liquid after a nights sleep

  • It’s refreshing, especially with a squeeze of lemon

  • Celery contains vitamin K, Vitamin C, potassium, folate and B6 so i feel like I’m getting some goodness early in the day

  • Vitamin K helps skin function and firmness so I feel like I’m enjoying some inside out skin care when i’m drinking it!

Try it and let me know how you get on!
